Ballet Lessons : Perform a Pirouette
When performing a pirouette in ballet, allow the head to move freely, keep the arms in the port de bras position and keep the legs on the balls of the feet. Avoid doing a flat-footed pirouette turn with help from an experienced dance instructor in this free video ballet lesson.

My problem is not …
My problem is not that she can’t turn well (she’s a teacher, not a dancer in her prime). The issue is that she’s unable to articulate anatomically what is required in order to execute a pirouette well. She makes no mention of correct alignment of the spine and pelvis, and does not stress the importance of recruiting the abdominal muscles when turning. She lacks knowledge, not skill, and for that reason should not be teaching ballet.
