This is a great old …
This is a great old tune no matter the name! Composer Copeland snuck it into his moving ‘Appalacchian Spring’. I personally play this old Quaker shaker on the moumtain dulcimer or ukelele, as the mood takes me.
You,sir, are a treasure…Laurie

Thanks for the up …
Thanks for the up date on the history of the song, however I think the only point he was making in England they call it Lord of the Dance and the church I attend that was the heading on the sheet music we had as well.
Not trying to discredit or down play the song in any way it’s a great song and allows us to sing praise and glory to Our Lord on Sundays.
Thank you once more for the history on it and God Bless

Odd, since Simple …
Odd, since Simple Gifts was originally written in 1848 in Maine by Elder Joseph Brackett of the Shaker community. Wiki says that the song was adapted by Englishman Sydney Carter in 1963 as Lord of the Dance.
I’m betting Elder Joseph would turn turn turn in his old grave if he could see what has happened to his song lately! His classic message of simplicity as a virtue somehow seems to have been lost as a marching band song or set to the fountains at the Bellagio seen in other YouTube vids!
